This is the song DRIVE BY off the THANK YOU album. The song has more than a passing resemblance to the legendary track THE CHAUFFEUR off the RIO album. Check it out and see for yourself. It becomes VERY clear after the 2:45 mark.

LYRICS:
"It was the hottest day in July
And all along Santa Monica Blvd
Cars were stood still
And a gleaming metal tube
Would stretch all the way from the highlands
Back to La Brea.
And she met under Los Angeles sunshine

Young man was sitting at the wheel
On his way to make a pickup
Turned off the air-con
Rolled down the window
And began to sweat

Out over the Hollywood hills
He saw the clouds building
Like great dark towers of rain
Ready to come tumbling down
Any day now
Not a day too soon

(Any day now)

And as the music drifted in
From other cars
His eyes started to slip
This is the story of his dream

Silver...

(Sing Blue Silver, Sing Sing Blue Silver)

This is the story of his dream...."

I do not own the rights to the music in this video. They are held by Duran Duran, EMI and other music entities, im sure. Love the song? Buy it!

  • WTF - "Gayer than Advertised"? Hate to break it to you - they are not gay - just British.

  • It's more like the Chauffeur prequel.

  • @moxie96 I never did understand why people thought they were gay. Nick did appear that way with his make-up and hair dos, but just look at the beautiful women in their videos and look at the women they married...

  • @uncaballero1 no chauffer part one was very european this one is quite california usa

  • @Bawbster1 far from gay, if you see what both their most controversial videos were being girls on flim and the chauffer at the time both featuring porno themes which were not quite the thing that was there for the screaming girls now was it?

  • @uncaballero1 yep:)

  • your photo saying 1986 is incorrect, that was more like 1982 circa Rio, HLTW, HBTR, etc.

DD broke up in 85 after VTAK was filmed. the band reformed in 2005 for Astronaut short-lived, but we saw Andy Taylor was an essential element to the music and writing melody and harmony.

the new stuff is good again, Girl Panic especially! sounds like old Rio album material! nice.

  • Epic!

  • There's also a definite tribute to David Bowie's "Future Legend" in this song.

  • love it

  • I always listen to this on scorcher days in July. Thanks for the upload.
