Char's dislike of normals may be a factor, but that was no reason for him to begin his crusade unless he had a reason to do so. He is a hardline activist in his cause but that didn't mean that he was narrow minded. The reason why he instigated his plan was simply because if it succeeded, he would be able to hasten mankind's development into Newtypes. It was less kill them all as it was survival of the fittest.

@Machdude Hmmm, where to begin. First, Zeon only wanted to replace the EF government, which by this time was quite corrupt, with an equally totalitarian regime. Second, until the Gundam came on the scene, they held a distinct technological advantage, even though the EF had more manpower and resources behind it.
