In the 1990's, a US sailor turned up for duty at the Holy Loch Base only to find that the US Navy had closed the base and left Dunoon.

Based on a true story the film was written and directed by Louie Pastore.

  • Was there in 1987-1989 so very special to see this video. I was wondering what was said at the end of the movie , did his mother say that when the navy left t hat it was the "end of the world?" Can you clarify the ending louiepastore1? Very melacholy to see this after having known some of that life as well.

  • @KyleRoku Hi Kyle... It's based on personal experience, my mother who was married to an American sailor "used to tell me, this place was the end of the world' - meaning that if there was ever a nuclear war, this area would be one of the first to go and we wouldn't know anything about it. Hope that answers your question! all the best , Louie

  • Very awesome! And guess what else? That sailor is my HUSBAND!!!! Thanks for a look into his youth. lol But very good film then.

  • Hi....

Hope Mark is well... He did a great acting job!

    Louie

  • Cheers Raydvd...

The film was my HND effort for James Watt College made over 10 years ago (using SVHS cameras and seperate mic).

I keep meaning to digitally re-edit it which would vastly improve the sound quality.

  • My dad was on the USS Holland in the 80's, lived in Eagle Ct. for 3 years....so cool to see this!

  • I was stationed there, many good memories!

  • i was 15 when the ship left, i miss the Americans so much. Dunoon was a great wee place when they were here. All my firends were American and it's a shame i lost touch with many of them. Haste Ye Back!

  • served aboard the dry dock just before the decommission, in 1991. Walked that pier with the locked gates many times. Been looking for something to reminisce of the Holy Loch and Dunoon, tiring myself of the stories. Lovely town. Fond memories. Miss the fish and chips at the pier. Thank you.

  • And the U.S Navy are still sending sailors to a base which left many moons ago...

    P.S Dunoon misses it!

  • He is very well. A married man and a proud father to a boy. I thought he did a decent job myself.

  • LOL No no Mark is MY hubby. It's neat to see him in his prime. Thanks for posting it. I quite enjoyed it!!!
