Testing my Panasonic GH2 14-140mm at the Pala Steel Match. Match info below:

--

Three or four times a year, whenever the calendar gives us a fifth Saturday in the month, we hold the San Diego Steel Match. Although the stage design and rules lean toward USPSA this is a great match for shooters in any of the competitive disciplines - USPSA, IDPA, Police, Cowboy, etc. We allow .22 (pistol and rifle) so bring the kids or a new shooter along.

The match consists of a minimum of six USPSA style stages using only steel targets and the usual USPSA props (barricades, barrels, ports, etc.). If it's made of steel we shoot it - pepper poppers, round and square plates, movers, swingers, plate racks, Texas stars, and more. Round count is typically around 150, but bring plenty of ammo as steel is unforgiving. We recognize all USPSA pistol divisions, as well as both .22 pistol or rifle and shotgun (sorry, no magnums or .223).

Normal start time is 9AM, but because of the large turnout at recent matches (100+ shooters) we've been starting squads as early as 8AM, so feel free to come early and shoot early. Match fee is $30 for the general public and $20 for LdF members.

We have a great street taco vendor who will have food and drink available for purchase at the range. Your support of the food vendor will help ensure that they continue to return for future matches. If you're not planning to purchase food or drink you should bring something to drink as there is no running water at the range.

The 2011 San Diego Steel Match schedule is:

Saturday, January 29
Saturday, April 30
Saturday, July 30
Saturday, October 29

  • I am to to SoCal and would love to get into compition shooting sport. Is there a 10rnd mag cap or can you use the G17mag. in your G34

  • @omegalopez71 Hi, high cap mags are legal to own in CA. You should visit CalGuns.net for the most accurate and up-to-date information. At that match, you can decide if you want to shoot Production (10rd mag) or Limited (>10)

  • VERY nice runs man!

You seem to have a much better range than what we have out here.

    GREAT stuff!

    LONG LIVE THE PEOPLE!!!

  • @alonewcompany Thanks, man. In CA, our gun laws are terrible but our ranges are fantastic. The irony!

  • @SuperSetCA yeh... a few. Already have networked with some MA IDPA shooters (johniac) who are gonna take me in under their wing. YT can be the opposite of suck sometimes

  • @MrJmfitch I just checked a website (downzero.com) and it looks like they have some matches up there, even 3-gun! There's always hope!

  • @CaliLegal Thanks! Pala range near the casino. Check my description for links.

  • sweet steel shooting, where is this located?

  • @SuperSetCA LOL... I just use the force brother. Sometimes the force is strong.. other times now :) My matches are definitely going to decrease here VERY soon... I got one/2 more in me before my move to MA, where there aint a whole lot going on.

  • @MrJmfitch I expect to see an all steel match on your channel soon. Remember, you gotta aim!
