One of my personal favorites, Mulgrew Miller's "Grew's Tune," the leadoff track from his 1992 RCA release 'Hand in Hand,' one of the best jazz albums of the last twenty years--yet unfortunately it's out of print, and has been for a long time. This song--the whole album, really--is a beautifully elegant piece of contemporary small-combo composition, and I was fortunate enough to hear Mulgrew play it live a few years ago. The all-star ensemble includes Mulgrew Miller (piano), Joe Henderson (tenor saxophone), Eddie Henderson (trumpet and flugelhorn), Kenny Garrett (alto saxophone), Steve Nelson (vibraphone), Christian McBride (bass), and Lewis Nash (drums).

  • MidnightSwinger is 100% True! I 1st saw Mulgrew Miller on tv at Much Music in Canada! I was amazed. Immediately I went to buy a cd, THIS 1! Not only is the music Mind Blowing, audiophiles will enjoy the quality of the mastering. All About Jazz site lists this Album in it's Post-Bop Records of the Modern Era! 3 CD's I constantly listen to, This 1, Arturo Sandoval, I remember Clifford and Bela Fleck&The Flecktones Live Art! Modern Geniuses. This Album is so Out-Of-Print on Ebay selling for $116US!

  • Damn...not surprised at all to hear it's going for that much on Ebay. And you're absolutely right about the audio quality. It's a real gem.

  • Just inspired to pull this out of my collection - forgot how wonderful this is!!

  • I had this CD. And it got stolen along with a bunch of others including Steve Coleman. Great tune.

  • Wow!! I love Mulgrew Miller! I still haven't been able to find my favorite by him on Youtube, which is "Holding Hands" THANKS FOR THIS POST!

  • Does anyone have the Chord Changes for this one? Or for "For those that do? What a great album, Joe Henderson just shines like the son....Mulgrew growing with every chorus....magic!!! Wish Eddie Henderson would have taken some solos........

  • The textures of this song (which I heard performed live, once) are just gorgeous. And the personnel on this album...what is there to say? Beautiful, beautiful stuff. If you don't like this, you don't like jazz.
