When I was a young singer/songwriter in New York City, (as opposed to an old singer/songwriter in Venice Cal.), I lived for a time on Jane St. in the West Village and would often go for walks on Morton St. Pier by the Hudson River. I wrote this song "Morton St, Pier", just before the foundation was being laid for The World Trade Center towers, (The North tower was completed Dec.1970). In going over songs I would like to eventually make videos for, I was struck by the line "It looks like a sinking mans hand sticking out of the water"from my "Songs" album recorded at Mercury Studios for Uni Records in 1971; with the legendary George Duvivier on Bass, Ray Barret playing a beautiful organ solo and me and Harry Palmer on guitars, Harry and Bobby Scott produced; we recorded this live in one take, no auto tuning in those days. Archival pictures of The World Center from the pier and New York artist Robert Rauschenberg's paintings with my lyrics were used in the video as well.
