In view of my experience, the first thing to try when a 1911 has a problem chambering a round is to try a different magazine. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will spend thousands of dollars for a nice pistol, then try to feed it out of six dollar GI surplus mags.
Next I would polish the feedramps and throat the barrel.
Then I would change the recoil spring.
Just my humble opinion.
