I am not Catholic, I'm Presbyterian-Evangelical, but I still love this song and Perry Como

Christmas is just not "Christmas" in our home without Perry Como's "Ave Marie".

Yes, Perry was a strict Traditional Roman Catholic who attended the Latin Tridentine Mass. Hence his rendition of this very traditional "Hail Mary" (Ave Maria) in Latin is heartwarming to those of us who still attend the same Mass he did. We were proud of him and Bing Crosby another Traditional Catholic.

Mind you: if Mr. Como had gotten in touch with his Jewish Roots he might not have recorded this particularly christian song. Whatever the case, I am glad he did; it is a beautiful version.

Perry (Pierino) Como was an Italian American Roman Catholic, which would explain why he chose to record this song -- potential Jewish roots notwithstanding.

That would totally explain the heartfelt rendition he gives :)
