  • There are huge ships in Pearl Harbor (the Ship Arizona) that were sunk during World War 2 and they still leak oil, fuel, etc to this day and it has not done anything to Pearl Harbor, all the fish are still there, LOL.

You would basically have to gut the P-42 in order to make it into a reef.

  • Interesting.

  • The only issue with doing this with the p-42s is the fact you would have to get rid of all the diesel residue or completely remove the tanks but by removing them they could probably be used as spare parts. I know the Subway cars were completely gutted of all electrical components, seats and the glass to better prepare them for the sea bottom. one day when I take up living on the coast maybe I will learn to SCUBA dive and go take pics and post em.

  • Yeah when I heard about it It did not really interest me at the time but now it is kinda cool cause not only are they reefs but they kinda of a Human time capsule, from what i understand you can dive on them but they were initially created to reform the reefs that were destroyed back in the 1700s-1800s by the big sailing ships that dragged their anchors unknowingly destroying the reef. It now provides a place for native fish to repopulate areas they once called home.

  • I had no idea this even happened with the NYC Subway cars.

  • I had no idea this even happened with those NYC Subway cars.

  • I can remember where along the Atlantic Coast but they did build an Artificial reef out of old NYC Subway Cars I believe they were known as Red Bird Cars I saw this in Trains Magazine back in the late 90s and I also saw something about it in National Geographic around the same time I will see if I can find you a link and I will post it.

  • Emagine like a railfan dive fest diveing to an off shore P42 reef!!! LOL!!!!

  • well I mean If you really want them to Canada We can send to Canada But Making a Off Shore Artificial reef out of em isn't a bad idea either
