Here's my version of Bonaparte's Retreat, also known as Groom's Tune in some parts of North Carolina. "Google" Groom's Tune to learn of it's interesting Civil War history. If you read the history of Groom's Tune, you'll understand why I played this version slow as a lament.
The static or hissing noise is actually from intermittent traffic on wet pavement above the tunnel. I was playing very near one of the overhead light fixtures in the tunnel. Used a Kodak Zi6 with it's built-in microphone to record this. The green tint is just how things turned out due to the type of light bulb in the fixture. Some wierd sort of tunnel light that stays on 24/7. I think the green tinge is interesting. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did recording it. Thanks for your comments and ratings, and thanks for watching!

  • Lovely version.

    What key are you in?

    well done

  • Thanks for your comment.

I just play by ear and will have to guess that it's in the key of "G" though perhaps not to 440 pitch. Often I just keep the fiddle in tune with itself unless I happen to be playing with ohters and can tune to them "by ear".

  • it sounds amazing in that tunnel. i kind of like the background traffic noise, adds some realism.

  • Thanks for your comment. I agree with your opinion about the background sounds. Unedited reality audio can be the most interesting. That jingling sound about 2/3 of the way through was from a dog which the woman was walking. The dog had all kinds of metallic tags and stuff around it's collar.
