  • Russia should've gotten hit by a huge meteor millions of years ago

  • @tonilourdes

Of course Baltic states is in shit - how can be otherwise if ruling elite born and grow up in USSR??? We need TIME! More time. We need other 20 years. When the soviet people go to graves, we, humans, who grow up not in USSR, will be in power. Change of generations will change Baltics. Estonians is doing prety well. We, lithuanians, are not happy and very critical about ourselfs, many things must to be change.

Anyway, Europe with socialism is in bankrupcy, isnt?

  • Just hearing that lady's testimony... and knowing that people in my family and many of my friends' families went through very similar tragedies makes my heart break. Estonian love, Baltic solidarity. I agree, Russia should have been hit by a meteor long ago.

  • the rus were continually attacked by every shitty little country on their borders over the previous 1000 years...defensive measures were necessary...the rus are humble, simple, nonaggressive, people who like to work in their gardens and write poetry

  • And only one of the baltic nations managed to defy the communist pigs.

Economic management and economic growth is best explained by statistics.

And what statistics tells us is that, for instance, Latvia was more developed than Finland and on the same level as Denmark or Sweden before WWII started. When it was occupied by the Soviet Union, our GDP fell drastically and only reached the level of 1938 in the 1960s(!), while the rest of Northern Europe was booming. The GDP per capita experienced only marginal growth up until regaining independence.

And, no, people aren't fleeing. Some people are migrating, which is what happens when you become a part of a supranational state (the EU) and any restrictions on the movement of workers are eliminated. The poor people are going to migrate, because why wouldn't they? All of the new member-states have experienced massive emigration to the more wealthier countries, so that is in no way indicative of poor economic management.

In fact, the Baltics have been among the fastest growing economies of Europe during the last 20 years. The Soviet-induced backwardness and the effects of the inefficient planned economy that was forced upon us have been overcome by a ~1/3 - that's how much the difference between the living standards in Western Europe and the Baltics have decreased.

Are our economies shit? No. In 2011 we were once again among the fastest growing economies in the EU. So, please, stop talking shit.

Would you say the same thing to a Jewish person remembering the victims of the Holocaust? Are they moaning about the past? Let's face it, you're a narrow-minded, Baltic-hating bigot. You are no better than the fat, bald-headed neo-Nazis - narrow-minded, full of hatred, 100% ignorant and living in your own little world.

Remembering the hundreds of thousands of victims of Soviet terror is our duty, yet in no way does that mean that we aren't thinking about economic development.

  • Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians suck big time! You moan about the past rather than trying to fix your miserable existance and actually do something for a better future. Your countries are in deep shit with their economies. People just flee in search of a better life, and while you along with your dumbass government blame others for what they did to you and don't let it go, you will remain as insignificant, paralized, and unable to see beyond the end of your nose as you've proved so far.
