Really good post. I really enjoyed this one! Like the photographs and posters. I notice "Ideal Milk" advertised. This evaporated milk is still available - at least I think it is! These depictions of a bygone age are so interesting.
Thank you for sharing your fine record collection. It is greatly appreciated.

Wow, Gregorsz! I didn't konw that. This band just seems of the pattern that a lot of the Brit bands of the late 20's early '30's cusp blew the dust off most American bands. Whiteman was well intentioned in bringing hot musicians in and commisioning African American composers and arrangers - Well, he was descended from abolitionists but ...
his sound was so BABBIT at times.
( pretentious and culturally challanged heartland bourgeosie )

Yes, I agree. With the end of the Roaring 20s his band lost - similarily to many other bands (e.g. Ben Bernie or Leo Reisman) much of its iventiveness and vigour in arrangements and in playing.

Very interesting to hear such an early Jay Wilbur record. His 1920s output,to me,is far better than his bland efforts in the mid 1930s
This is nice... very FRESH sounding.

Yes, the sound is fresh and astonishingly clear :-) as if negating the poor reputation of Dominion records, which were famous for a very bad quality of their shellack

Terrific posters of the London Underground. I think Pears Soap is still around, amongst other brands.

Hi B., yes, this was the soap of a "real English lady", wasn't it? Didn't Mary Poppins use the Pears soap, exclusively?
