A great song & story for these times.
Arlo's son Abe is on keyboards & Gordon Tibcomb on steel. I shot this at the Sebastian River Festival, April 10, 2004.
That's our daughter, Annie holding our grand daughter, Olivia. Annie was born July 1976 around the time Arlo wrote this song. My favorite line in this song is, " perhaps too much is being asked of too few, you and your children with nothing to do..."

Sorry for the sound quality.
Here are the lyrics:

Patriot's Dreams

Living now, here but for fortune
placed by faith's mysterious schemes
Who'd believe that were the ones asked to try to rekindle the Patriot's Dreams

Arise sweet destiny time runs short
all of your patience has heard their retort, hear us now, for alone we can't seem to try to rekindle the Patriot's Dreams

Can you hear the words being whispered all along the American stream, tyrants freed and the just are imprisoned
Try to rekindle the Patriot's Dreams

But perhaps too much is being asked of too few, you and your children with nothing to do, hear us now, for alone we can't seem to try to rekindle the Patriot's Dreams.

Arlo just released a NEW CD titled, "In Times Like These", with the Kentucky Orchestra. "Patriot's Dream" is stunning. The entire CD is absolutely beautiful!

  • Any chance of posting the lyrics?

    I'm not dissing your recording

    (thanks for posting it!)

but between my old ears and this tiny speaker

I just can't make them out..

  • Of course I will, this sound on this is awful. I'm working on "Patriot's Dream" with the sound track from Arlo's CD titled "In Times Like These" with the Kentucky Orchestra. It is so beautiful.

    Thanks for asking.

  • I first heard this song on the radio a few weeks ago, and it hit me like a brick upside the head. I was born in 1947, like Arlo, and lately have been reflecting on my life and my generation. Sometimes I think that the worst thing our counterculture did was to degrade patriotism as a virtue, and now it is regarded as the sole preserve of the right-wing nutcases.

  • This is such a great, great song from Amigo, one of my favorite albums of all time. Is 'Victor Jara' out there somewhere? Such an amazing album. It's gotta be 30 years old and it's still one I play every month or so.

  • thank you for the wonderful video :)

  • This Folk Slinger, as he calls himself, is much more than what he seems to be. He, resembles, in my mind, what the Lamb, from 2000 years ago would be today. That is not quite what so many have made the Lamb out to be.

  • I saw Ford in 76 at the Bridge.

  • That's a wonderful song. Arlo's my hero, really hope I get the chance to see him live one day.
