I am in in the process of building a small electric child's ride-on. The unit was entirely designed and constructed by myself. In the end, it should look like an old Dodge Power Wagon. The body isn't completed and there is still a good amount of work to be done but the major functional components are in. The throttle pedal isn't finalized in position however. This is the first functional test with my two daughters who are 6 and 4 years old.

  • Brilliant video, can't wait to see how the project progresses.

Why do kids get all the fun, they have a wide range of EV's they can drive away and we grownups still have to wait.

So are you going to convert your truck after you have finished this project ?

  • Thanks for the comments! True about kids having all the fun, but I guess I'm having a second one through my two daughters, lol. I think I'd have to fill the bed up with batteries just for a quick cruise (8000lbs). I'll have to wait till the electric engines get much more efficient I think.

  • The entire design was done with a 3D CAD program first and then I made most of the parts from scratch. It wasn't cheap or easy but it was fun.

  • It probably weighs over two hundred pounds with the two full size truck batteries under the seat and the all steel tube frame and wood panels. It will carry me (250 lbs) and my kids at the same time though up hill no problem.

  • Not sure how to post it on your site. Yes, I used a transaxle and controller from designed for a personal mobility scooter. I actually bought it new from China but you can get them in the USA now for a little over 200, but the real nice controller is another 200 unless you can get one cheap off eBay. This is an old video, I have another on YouTube where its much more complete, but even that one is outdated because I completed the truck two years ago I think. It's a beast of a machine.

  • That's great. Is that a starter motor? how long the batery lasts?

  • click it or tickit. lol.. nice work man.. looks like they love it.

  • The electric motors are 95% efficient, the drawback is the price of Li-Ion batteries :(
