Here's another song that I'm doing therapy to get over. There is probably a little Charles Ives and Stravinsky finding its way into the music with the weird meter and harmony. Then, of course, there's my insane ideas of what constitutes as music!

I believe "Hear Us From Heaven" is NOT in this version 27 times. (And a subsequent hearing of this song at church clocked in the count at 41 times!)

And by the way, if you think this arrangement "isn't Christian" solely because of the music, I invite you to search "Olivier Messiaen."

  • Stravinsky would fucking murder you for even mentioning him alongside this atrocity.

  • @JackETProductions I'm not so sure. After all, he did say "Music praises God. Music is well or better able to praise him than the building of the church and all its decoration; it is the Church's greatest ornament."

  • @jimlapbap "Comment removed" hahaha you spineless coward.

  • @JackETProductions I didn't do it, I though you had, and you were going to write something else.

Here it is! "@jimlapbap Haha aside from the hideous worship aspect of the song, its a musical atrocity."

  • @jimlapbap I'm also still waiting for why this is a musical atrocity :-). Here are my theories: A) the original song is repetitive and boring and you putting ice cream on dirt doesn't make the dirt taste better, B) there is a pretty jarring instability in terms of harmonic progression, C) I wrote this thing in about 2 hours, so it's sloppily put together, D) it's just stupid to combine piano and gogo balls.

  • Um, what part of this is avant garde?

  • Avant garde in general is the pushing of the norms in art.

While in the broad context it is not, it is avant garde within the context of Christian Contemporary Music. Basically, the use non-traditional chords/chord progressions and irregular meter, two items that are very fixed in CCM. There is also some instrumentation usage that's practically absent from CCM as well.
