@Vikingskog Not to mention that the songs were passed down from mouth to ear (instrument to fingers, etc. etc.) so even the 200-400 years after viking age is like to be very similar, due to us not really getting brand new songs, but instead playing what has been taught throughout generations.

@henrikhankhagnell We dont know they played this exact melody obviously, thats impossible.
But we know they played the instrument in the similar way, we have found several instruments of this type from the viking age.

@Vikingskog but you didn't find the musical notes. I guess the people of the viking age never wrote down there music like we would today. so how do we know how to play?

@henrikhankhagnell No they didnt write it down, but we have some tunes from the middleage(200-400years after the viking age), as well as many old folk songs, which havent changed much.
The amount of ways you can play this instrument is kinda limited, so by looking at the oldest melodies for it you can get a good idea of how they played, we just dont know the melodies they used.
There is only so many ways to play these old instruments, so its not that hard to re-create.
