Hummingbird: a revolutionary 6-DOF active vibration isolated platform by MECAL

The high-tech industry constantly requires improvement of the accuracy of mechatronic systems. Floor vibrations around 1 Hz are a limiting factor in the performance of these systems.

Present commercially available technology is limited to a suppression of 3 : 1 around 1 Hz, which is insufficient to meet the accuracy demands in many of todays mechatronic systems. MECAL therefore developed a groundbreaking technology to suppress floor vibrations with at least a factor of 30 : 1 around 1 Hz in 6 Degrees of Freedom (DOF).

The film shows our 6-DOF active vibration isolated platform (the Hummingbird) and transfer functions from floor vibrations to table vibrations, measured in X-, Y- and Z-direction.
