Great match, especially considering it's from 1984. The Cobra should've been a star.

For the vacant Junior Heavyweight Championship.
From Madison Square Garden, December 28, 1984.

  • Don't confuse this Cobra with the later 1980s WCW wrestler Cobra, who was allegedly from "WCW Special Forces". That Cobra was veteran wrestler Jeff Farmer. I have no idea who this Cobra is under the mask. They should still have some form of a WWE Jr. Heavyweight or Cruiserweight title, but Vince is so hung up on the bigger guys it will probably never happen again (except for Rey Mysterio, most WWE guys are at least 6'1 and over 230 lbs).

  • @elc1960 This Cobra was a Japanese wrestler named George Takano. He was pretty amazing, well ahead of his time. Spent some time in Stampede Wrestling before the WWF matches. Can see some of his other matches on youtube, from both Japan and North America. Some great battles with Dynamite Kid, Davey Boy Smith, Black Tiger and others... The Black Tiger is Mark Rollerball Rocco from Britain. I don't know too much about him other than he was highly regarded as a juniorheavyweight in the 80s.

  • @elc1960 I actually have a much better version of this match that i'll try and upload eventually. I liked this one because it was direct from VHS tape and doesn't have the logo that is on all WWE vids today. But the other version i have is unedited and a bit longer than this one.

  • Saw this on an old Coliseum video once, and mistakenly thought it was Tiger Mask, not Black Tiger. Thanks for uploading!

  • @dontchadaremissit Thanks for the info, dude! I have pretty good knowledge about old school AWA, NWA, WCW, ECW and WWWF/WWF, but not much about Stampede. Pity they weren't as well-covered by the wrestling mags back in the '70s, because from what I've seen they had some incredible wrestlers there over the years.
