U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Siemens Announce Sustainable Community Award Winners Albuquerque, NM; Chapel Hill/Carrboro, NC; Kingsport, TN Win! Best places to live. Best places to raise a family. Best bang for your buck. There are tons of criteria used to identify top "green" communities across the U.S. But which communities truly have what it takes to meet the unique challenges of the 21st Century? Siemens and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center joined forces to honor three communities for their capability to successfully take on challenges such as environmental stewardship, economic growth, and social capital.

And the winners are...

- Large Community - The City of Albuquerque won for AlbuquerqueGreen, a comprehensive sustainability plan backed by Mayor Martin J. Ch vez that provides the vision and tools for the city to become a national model for energy conservation, clean energy production and use, and conservation technologies.
- Mid-Size Community - The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber is honored for creating the Foundation for a Sustainable Community, which invests in business and community resources to promote and advance environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic prosperity.
- Small Community - The City of Kingsport won for its efforts in the last decade to revitalize the manufacturing town through a combination of training/workforce development, entrepreneurism, and diversification of the economic base.
