Footage of CFA volunteer Trevor Vienet's $2,000 deluge sprinkler system being tested six days before the Black Saturday fires in Victoria.

See Clonbinane Firestorm (07/02/09) Part 1 and Part 2 for footage taken during the fire.

Trevor said: " I saved my own home due to my fire suppression system but I lost one neighbour and 10 homes closest to me were all destroyed. I rescued the next door neighbour and his dog. Both suffered burns fleeing their burning home. I nursed both of them until we could them out around 10 am next morning. The dog (Jedda) will be OK. She was transferred to Essendon Vet clinic for intensive care. They offered to pay the bills which are now close to $20,000! My neighbour Royce spent several days in hospital. His family left early but he stayed to fight the fire. His losses includes his home , work vehicle and all his tools. He is a welder and one of his acetylene cylinders landed on the other side of my dam. This is about 300 metres away.

I lost all my sheds and equipment including my beloved BMW bike. I am happy to live to tell the story."

  • Hi, Any chance of some more details on this system. I'm on Mount Dandenong and have been adding an EWSS to my home for a few years now and would like more info on a system that worked. I cannot see the spinklers or pipes clearly in this video.

    Thx

    Rob Smyth
