Preamp tube shootout coming up!

I have this amp for about 3/4 of a year now. I wanted to try out some new preamp tubes.

I bought:
-2 NOS General electronics JAN 5751's (12ax7 with lower gain: 70 in stead of 100)
-NOS General electronics JAN 12at7
-NOS General electronics 12av7 (41 gain in stead of 100)
-NOS Phillips balanced 12at7 (It has U.S.A. printed on it, which is stange for a Dutch company???)
-V1 JJ 12ax7
-V1 Tung sol 12ax7
-V1 Svetlana 12ax7

I also bought a sovtek 12ax7 LPS which I dropped on my brick of a wah and broke...silly me

Stock the amp has 5 12ax7 Groove tubes (which are actually relabeled sovtek 12ax7wc's) and a 12at7(which is probably a sovtek to but there is no sovtek printed on it).

To compare them I will put them all in the V1 position of the amp and record it all for you to enjoy.

I'll be playing on my Danelectro guitars: dead on 67, dano 63 bass and a longhorn baritone.

It's gonna be a long and fun day.

Can anyone tell me what a preamp tube does tonally? I've never had a tube amp and Theres one im looking at that is a hybrid with a 12AX7 preamp tube :S chhers!

@UKToneKing I am going to buy a silverface vibrolux next, was getting a SF DR, but the vibrolux is the same really, apart from 6l6s, 40 watt, and 2 speakers, so more for the money, as they go cheaper than SF DRs for some reason, these old fender amps are worth their Waite in gold man, anyway I have sighed up to your channel, as I found U interesting, so greetings from the UK, and please do some more demos, hopefully on the circuits, or more tube changing, U got any Silverface amps ?

@UKToneKing Anyway I know my bassman sounds amazing, never heard an old silverface amp that sounded crap, the ultralinear amps were a bit to clean, but for surf ect U could not beat them, mine is not ultralinear , the bassman 135s are, can not be leave how nice this sound's with new tubes, this amp is the shit, in the music shop yesterday, everyone was crowding round to hear it man, they used to getting blues Jns or HRDx playing in that shop, so they got a real treat yesterday

@UKToneKing the GT tubes are low output, so that they break up sooner, they just seem the same to me in that department, but no doubt they will be giving the added pleasure I am hearing to the tone, I proper love this bassman 100, some say the blackface bassmans are the ones to get, or the blonds ( as tweed are to pricey ) but I know what my ears are hearing man, plus half of that is hype over the blackface thing, I don't like that old harsh breakup, well it is ok, but nothing big

I stuck the same tubes in my bassman as were in before, not brand wize, but output wize, and some say I should rebias, others say their is no need to, as the same tubes are going in ? I haven't, and their is no red plate ect, one guy told me it was just a racket to give people more money, and he said he has never biased an amp when putting the same tubes back in, what is your opinion, as U swop them around a lot by the looks of it ?

nice demo man, I love looking at diffrerent tubes, I just pulled a jan philips 5751 out my bassman phase inverter. I had ruby tubes in the power section, and sovitec in the preamp of my bassman 100, I just stuck a full set of fender GT tubes in, russian design, they were bit more money than some of the other GT tubes, but they were worth it man, this amp sounds killer now like, I mean killer, got loads of spank, it was very chimey before, but now it has that fender spank, I love this amp to bits
