  • Some of you are truly talking utter rubbish. What gives anyone the authority to say how a certain piece should be played? Is there no room for interpretation? If thats the case, then only one person should ever play a particular song, the composer. My belief is that each composition is open to interpretation by the performer, and that is one of the greatest assets of music.

  • well, to be fair to heifetz, those are written as down bow staccatos, which are more difficult, so doing them upbow is a liiiittle bit of cheating... but I do like the effect here.

  • @FlierFrank172 I'm not so sure she even plays it well... I've seen students play this better. It may be because she uses quite a bit of upper arm/shoulder tension, which really isn't the case with Heifetz or Rabin. There's even a clip of Ferras playing this with the same approach, arm tension, which doesn't go so well.

  • Omgosh, I saw her today <3 she played beautiful music.

  • Good job Liz! Hi from Ilmar

  • her staccato is phenomenal

  • someone can help me on how to get my staccato faster =( ?

  • @FlierFrank172 Look everyone has a right to music - my statement is not political. What I am saying is that she plays the piece with a 'western accent' and to a Romanian it sounds unconvincing. I don't mean to sound imodest but since you're pressing the point I probably play it better than her myself... its really no big deal, its all in the trills. Have a listen to G. Dinicu here on the tube. Listen to it, you may understand why Heifetz once regarded Dinicu as the greatest he has heard.

  • @oneoctavelow ...Going by what you say maybe only Russians can play compositions by Rachmaninoff or Tchaikovsky ? Only Germans playing Wagner, et al? What about Australians playing "Waltzing Matilda" ?

  • @oneoctavelow Do you consider Heifetz to be a westerner? He was the one who put in the upbow/downbow staccatos.

  • Brilliant Elizabeth, just brilliant ! Bravo !

  • VERY WELL PLAYED! I often find this piece played so fast that I can't listen to it. I like the way you played it and you played it just like the Heifetz transcription is, without avoiding the down-bow staccato. You make it sound really nice too, thank you
