To most Formula 1 fans, a mid-race pitstop is a four-second pause in the action, a frantic blur of activity before a driver gets back onto the racetrack.

But look closer.

The speed, efficiency and methodology behind each stop requires days, weeks and months of detailed preparation and practice.

Thought you knew everything about life in the pits? Think again. Check out www.mclaren.com for more info about the secret life of the pitstop.

  • YOU ARE THE BEST TEAM EVER

  • is it me or are they getting slower as the video goes on? seems like the first time was the fastes

  • it must be a worser job in nascar and the like they can get the lines in the wrong place and all other things, though these have to be faster theres 22 people in f1, probably the most skilled wheel guys are the aussie v8 pit crews the tyre guy has one person behind him with the wheel, the gun guy takes the tyre off him from standing and bolt it on in less than 2 seconds. very smoothly and skillfully done, id practice this stuff at home if i was one of them so id have less chance of messing it up

  • @mantzini haaa so fucking true.lol

  • I often thought that mclaren are slow pitstoppers, but thats truly not the fact. They really improved with that stuff.

Hope they will improve their car, too...

    Go Lewis, go McLaren!

Cant wait for spa... I miss the action...

  • @mantzini

i think you underestimate him, he can run alongside the car and do it so it doesnt have to stop, whilst he is driving it !

  • Waka Waka!!! Go McLaren!!! Common Guys!! Win for champion!

  • @mantzini LOL! Agree with you..lol! He knows the trick...and that trick will tell the truth.. :)

  • @MetAlParA It's a little bit faster in F1, but you have 3 guys changing each wheel, at least two guys lifting the car, one guy in the middle holding the car, one lollipop man, and on occasion two or more guys changing the front wing. That's a crowd of 16-20 people.

In Indy it's one guy per wheel and two for refuelling. And they are fast, just watch any Indy 500 Pitstop Challenge here on YouTube. Very skilled and pretty close to F1. Actually this season in F1 I've seen numerous slower stops.

  • @Kuba022

I realy doubt it, indy 500 are no where near as fast, It takes these boy's around 4 seconds from stoping the car to leting it go..
