So, #UN#, how did Obama do in the SOTU the other night?

Agreed

I agree with that 99.9 percent especially the affirmative action part. but i still don't completely believe that black people are still blaming "the man". Because of the new culture of tolerance black people will begin to work harder and rise above their suspicions but all that won't happen overnight.

The thing is racism will never go away, and it definitely goes both ways. I sympathize somewhat with the 50+ year old blacks who had to suffer harsh racism throughout their childhood. There are advantages of being a minority too, like affirmative action, which I think should be by class not race. I do think that the reason blacks are suffering so much poverty is that instead of working hard to advance they blame the man for holding them back and Democrats take the motivation to work away.

Yes the generation of racism is dying out but you can't ignore the fact that racism still exists. America (thought of as a forward thinking and tolerant nation) still has people calling ALL muslims terrorists and hang confederate flags while still call the Civil War the war of northern aggression. Racism still exists and is more widespread and ever-present than you think. It might be hard for you, on the outside looking in, to imagine what it is like to be black AND underprivileged.

I'm white and my family was poor Romanian immigrant farmers that immigrated here after slavery was abolished, and now we are on our third generation of Air Force officers who are living quite well now. I think racism was a huge problem up until about the 70's-early 80's. Using racism as an excuse for being poor will keep you poor. Lastly 2 of my 3 neighbors are black, and after talking to them they worked their asses off and are living quite lavishly now. Racism will never be completely gone.

I know and I'm not one to judge someone owithout knowing them, but if you look at the amount of blacks in a country and the crime rate it almost always correlates. However in America I agree with you that blacks are generally raised in poor conditions, but it should not be an excuse for turning to crime.

It's not BECAUSE they are black but because they have been born into a bad neighborhood for one thing and generally have less chances in life because of negative perseptions like this one.
I am going out on a limb, but I think he is trying to say that he would like to see more alternative punishments for crimes. While I do not agree with the idea for death penalty and corporal punishment, I think the using more humiliation punishments could be an effective tool in but reducing crime and reducing cost. The big problem is the jail can be thought of as a right of passage, but the more criminal element of our society.
