If 20 million people get healthcare in 2013 for the first time ever; then there might just be a doctor shortage.

He was referring to the doctor shortage in the PRIMARY CARE speciality. Medical Students avoid specializing in primary care because of it's low salary which makes it difficult to pay off 30 years worth of loans + interest from med school not to mention the crap hours and stress. It doesn't appeal to medical students hence the doctor shortage. Nice straw man :)

    You're welcome.

Most people, when they are aware of what Obamacare actually does, instead of falling for the insurance industry & opposition political propaganda, are all for it.

It's not perfect, but it's a start. The best hc model, from what I have read and experienced, is public financing (single payer) & private providers. That's also the conclusion of a recent Fareed Zakaria documentary t hat studied hc systems in nations around the world. .

Huh, thank you for all the info, honestly it sounded like he was just spouting out nonsense. However, I like having facts on my side and while nothing I read made what he was saying seem remotely true it helps to have the facts. It is so sad how these falsehood get spread around, people bash things they don't even fully understand. Anyway, thank you, I will still look into this further.

    Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)

    1. An end to copayments for a lot of basic preventative services.

    2. Elimination of the need for prior authorization for emergency ward care.

    3. Level emergency ward charges. They can’t charge you more if the ER you go to is out of network, because clearly you shouldn’t be charged more just because you got injured or ill in a location out of network.

    Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)

    4. If you have a dependent under the age 26, that dependent can stay on your coverage until the age of 26.

    5. Patient friendly appeal process. Law says that insurance co. cannot deny you while the appeals process is going on.

    6. No lifetime “caps” or limits on insurance coverage.

    7. Insure co’s must spend at least 80% to 85% (depending on group) of h.c. premiums on actual health care.

    Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)

    8. Children are covered for pre-existing conditions.

    9. Insurers can’t rescind your coverage if you get sick.

    10. State insurance authorities are newly empowered to look after consumers. Eg: North Carolina – with the new authority was able to get a $125M rebate for 250,000 customers and N.C. is seeing the lowest rate increases in a decade

    Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)

    11. The bill closed the "doughnut hole" for seniors. Saves seniors an average of $673/yr.

    12. The health care insurance “exchange” set up by the h.c. reform bill facilitates cross-state competition, and gives small businesses & individuals who have to purchase h.c. insur. direct (as opposed to employer sponsored plans) the ability to pool their purchasing power to compete with larger organizations for lower h.c. premiums.
