MARSHALL, Mich. (WOOD) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has told oil company Enbridge that its plan for a long-term clean-up of the Kalamazoo River and surrounding areas is deficient, and is giving the company 2 days to come up with a revised plan.
The news of the notice of disapproval came at a press conference held at Marshall High School on Saturday afternoon.
Enbridge originally submitted its long-term plan to the EPA on July 27th. In its letter back to Enbridge, the EPA called the companies plan deficient in content and technical details.
The EPA also says the work plan is insufficient. The letter to Enbridge, signed by Ralph Dahlhoff, the on-scene coordinator for the EPA, also says "the U.S. EPA will not accept further sumbissions of deficient plans."
Enbridge CEO Patrick Daniel said "I assure you that we will modify that plan until it meets requirements of EPA."
