The island is served by many major airlines that bring in large jet aircrafts, including Boeing 747s, Airbus A340s, and McDonnell Douglas MD-11s carrying tourists from across the world on a daily basis. The short length of the main runway at Princess Juliana International Airport, and its position between a large hill and a beach causes some spectacular approaches. Aviation photographers flock to the airport to capture pictures of large jets just a few feet above sunbathers on Maho Beach.

マホ・ビーチは飛行機が通過するコースの直下に位置し、また滑走路端にも位置しているため、飛行機の超低空飛行を間近で見られる場所として有名である。
また、飛行機が離陸する際の「後方気流」が体感できるが、１日１０回程度離陸する大型飛行機の「後方気流」は大変危険であり、「気をつけないと死にますよ」という意味の看­板が立っている。
