@Jeremybaum22 the purpose of the box is NOT to tell him when he is parallel (if his goal is to do a legitimate box squat.) The purpose is to break the momentum of the squat, much like a pause rep on bench press or stopping at the bottom on a set of deadlifts rather than doing touch and go reps... by breaking your momentum you ar forcing your body to reengage the muscles and utilize more hamstrings and him drive, again, when done correctly.

Far from a "low" box squat, it is a "high" box squat if anything, and correct me if I am wrong, but isnt the point of a box squat to pause on the box at the bottom of the rep an explode from that stopped position, much like a pause press when benching?
Its cool that you are coming back from an injury, and you are obviously strong... I recently incorporated box squats and am hoping they will help push my max from 475 to over 5 plates.

@Jeremybaum22 the lower you go the more of the glutes are activated
also it builds the part of the quad closer to the knee

@Jeremybaum22 please research olympic squatting -- the greatest amount of force on the knee is when at 90 degrees.

@Jeremybaum22 ATG squats are not bad for your knees, thats like says aslow conrolled bench press is bad for you. primal people squat ATG for hours. here are some facts: you can squat more with a belt, box, and a pad. another fact: the box isnt there to tell him when to go up, trust me you can feel when the exercise is done right. The box squat is to help supplement your raw squat. You stop all movementum and can go deeper depending on the box hieght. It is pretty much like a floor press.just facts

@Jeremybaum22 Can you explain to me why they're horrible on your knees? Both physics and my own experience would suggest box squats are worse.
Lose the box??? Look at his legs, they go parallel. The reasoning for the object there is to let him know when he is parallel. When he fells himself touching it, he then explodes up. Nothing wrong with his squats. And for those of you who believe in ass to grass squats please inform me why you believe that way is so much better? It's horrible on your knees and doesn't provide anymore benefits to go that low.

yea man lose the box and i wouldnt call it a deep squat by anymeans, but it is amazing after a knee injury and that you have a strong enough core to even support teh weight. It sucks to lift less but i say drop the weight alot and do goot squat especially to help ur knee recover
