CCA Orchid Island Yami Boat Launching Ceremony partA

In June of 2008, Hsieh Kuo-Lin and his family launched a traditional fishing boat. This was the first to be built and launched in Dongching Village in eight years, as the numbers of elders with the knowledge of traditional boat making have dwindled. Thus, the traditions that a boat be built only by the male members of a clan or fishing group were put aside. The village elders and youth all participated in completing this magnificent 10-person boat, symbolizing the passing down of boat making methods.
