Radio Mambi Condemns Juanes

Armando Perez Roura, programming director of Radio Mambi (WAQI 710AM), condemns Juanes saying that Juanes will be judged by history as an accomplice to the Cuban government, which Perez-Roura describes as the most brutal regime in all history. Juanes is scheduled to perform in Cuba on September 20th with the approval of the US and Cuban governments.

The Cuban exile community has been divided in their support or opposition to the Juanes concert in Cuba.

In the end of his radio commentary, Perez Roura recites a Jose Marti quote that is roughly translated saying:

"When freedom is not enjoyed [by all], Art's only excuse, and it's only right to exist, is to serve [freedom]. Everything into the fire, even Art, to feed the bonfire [of freedom]!"

Appealing to this maxim, local Miami organization Vigilia Mambisa symbolically smashed Juanes music CDs in protest, and burned a black shirt symbolic of a Juanes song.
