  • So sad they didn't even bother saving any of that brick or those fancy details above the windows!!!!!. There should a federal law that 90% of a building has to be recycled when demolished!!!

  • @Blahh992 they saved woodwork, etc. i assume there is a sensible reason why that detail was not removed. i'm with you on better laws on recycling. we're not quite the throw-away society that we once were but most of us agree there is sure room for improvement; thanks for watching, blahh992 :)

  • I would have saved the moldings from the window. Why didn't they take them with the porch?

  • good question (and pardon my tardy reply here);

    I think it has something to do with the material that they are. A man who has been salvaging for 20+ years did take what he could after demolition. Thx, Sintonluv :)

  • what a cool machine. that is pure power. wow, look at that thing work.

    how old was that house, anyway. looks like it was in pretty bad shape.

    is that why it was torn down? what are they building in its place?

  • Wolf, thanks for watching. No doubt that machine does what it was intended to do.

    Probably @ 125 years old; most woodwork, etc. was in pristine condition, & removed for reuse. Here, the porch & windows had been removed already. Number 4 in this series (link above as a response to this vid) has a pic of the house as it appeared before that.

    Purchased by an ever-expanding hospital, no public announcement has been made regarding the land's use. It could be years...

  • In the United States cooperate greed comes before preservation. The United States is the worse for preservation.

  • As sad as I find many people's general attitude, I think we could say that historic protection has improved in the U.S. and more people and organizations are participating in renovating and saving structures. (I remember the urban renewal of the 60's!) Eminent domain is yet another sore topic. We could talk horror stories. Change is too slow but hope is alive. Thx, manga12.

  • Thats just it , even if its on the national registry of historic places there is nothing to stop demolition of it. Even if it has land mark status unless there are local laws protecting it like they have in new york city little can be done if somone wants it torn down, and the abuses only get worse with eminant domain developers now can get it if they petiton a city for it and the city feels it in best interest, its an abuse of the power ment for the local to be able to improve life for people

  • For the most part, I was the only other person there...silently taping except for a few ohh's and ehhh's....people had already exhausted the idea of moving the house...(mm, wondering why you'd be discussing related things with the demo crew...little details of the job? ..the job that has already been 'approved'?)

  • Aha, now I see...that is too sad, and not too surprising. A part of human nature that leads to a whole other topic of discussion: we humans and power...what we do with it ..from very subtle ways in one on one relationships to political dictators. BTW, I've thought for years now that it would be beneficial to have classes in our schools for topics other than the ABCs...'life skills' classes...the 'how-to's' of living...in non-hysteria... ahh, I know: school budgets, etc etc etc....
