Congressman Don Manzullo (R-Egan) debates and discusses the issues with Public Affairs, host Jeff Berkowitz in a program taped on September 30, 2008. About two thirds of the program is devoted to an in depth discussion of the 700 billion dollar, Bush Administration proposed bailout, which was rejected by the House on September 29, 2008. The votes of Manzullo, Rush, Kirk, Bean and Costello are discussed.
That bailout discussion includes Manzullos views on the Bear Stearns bailout, the merger of Merrill Lynch with Bank of America, the Lehman Bros. non-bailout, the AIG bailout, the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailouts and the proposed 700 billion dollar bailout of troubled assets, held by troubled financial institutions and others.
Also included is a discussion of what various House members, including sixteen-year Republican incumbent Cong. Manzullo and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank, were doing, or not doing, in the last eight years to reign in some apparently overly aggressive financial institutions e.g., Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, in an attempt to see that loans were made to those who could pay them back. Also discussed was what the Federal Reserve and its Chairman did, or have not done, or could do to promote such loans.
Manzullo describes the primary reasons why he voted against the 700 billion dollar bailout, including his view that (a) the legislation created a dictator, in the form of Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, and (b) there are good alternatives to the bailout, e.g., having the SEC change its mark to market regulations.
Abboud argued on Public Affairs, last week that one of the underlying problems to much of the above is the loss of jobs due to bad trade agreements. Manzullo gives his reaction to that argument, including his allegation that Abboud has said elsewhere that he supports free trade agreements. Manzullo also identifies an income level above which he contends Abboud supports raising taxes.
Manzullo discusses what NAFTA has done for Chryslers exports coming out of the 16th CD and what needs to be done to reduce Rockfords 11% unemployment. Also discussed are Cong. Manzullos plans to reduce energy costs; Manzullos positions on the origination of the Iraq War, the Surge, taking a look back at Iraq and a date certain to withdraw the troops; Manzullos positions on border control, a fence and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who are currently within the United States borders.
Additional topics discussed are the following issues: privatization of Social Security? health care reform? pro-life? Block the increased traffic from CN railroad? Stricter CAFÉ standards? Restrict Assault weapons or high powered ammunition? Concealed Carry? Same sex marriage? Civil unions?

for kripes sake....damn interviewer needs to give time for a question to be answered. He continually interrupts, disallowing a full answer to be given, instead interjecting his own answers.. Ask the question , THEN SHUT UP AND LISTEN.
