Music: "Running up that hill" by Placebo
The vid centers around the relationship between Sebastian and Ciel, and what they both get out of it, the good and the bad. (more info below)
"Let me steal this moment from you now.
Let's exchange the experience"
Sebastian is prodding Ciel into emotions that, like an avalanche, lead to more emotions, ever stronger, on Ciel's part - and thus Sebastian gets his "experiences", his kicks. The nub and crux of it all is that Sebastian is perfectly aware that these states he helps induce in Ciel are not entirely beneficial for the kid - and, as much as the fandom tries to read more between the lines, he does not give a damn. Because, let's not kid ourselves, he /is/ a demon.
Structure-and-pov-wise, most of the mmv is from Ciel's pov, except for the first chorus, every other "If I only could be running up that hill", and the last section "Come on baby, come on, come on darling...", which are from Sebastian's pov.
That said, the mmv has two areas of interest:
- one: the century-or-millennia-old demon, who is intrigued by his young master and the amount of anger and rage and steel he harbors, observes his master's/quarry's every move and delights in the ups and downs the boys goes through, the living and the dying, the suffering, the denial, the self-deceit. It's an experience. He's not exactly experiencing life through Ciel, but a demon only has his aesthetics, after all, and this is something like an interesting treat
- two: Ciel, under the self-deceit and outward strength, is still a kid, lashing against the situation and the things he's lost, while being perfectly aware that he'd known what he was doing when he gave them up. He is also quite aware that Sebastian loves making him squirm while at the same time not giving a damn (see above). Ciel is lying to himself about it all, in order to steel himself. As in, you probably should be a very good self-liar in order to persuade yourself that, when you entered the contract with a friggin' DEMON, it was your wisest course of action. So he's building up his mental defenses. But because Ciel is a child, and an intelligent, shrewd person, and because he's been so hurt before, he resents himself for having to lie to himself, and double-resents Sebastian for being the reason of the lie - as Ciel perceives him (though we intelligent people *XD* can see that Sebastian has no real fault in this particular instance). So, childishly, hurt, Ciel throws this in Sebastian's face - "wanna know that it doesn't hurt me?" - then I'll show you just how much it doesn't hurt. *flaunt flaunt fail*. On top of this, Ciel is slipping, slowly but surely, towards grey areas and cool, clean darkness.

2:30 - what episode is that?
ChiaroscuroPL 1 year ago
@ChiaroscuroPL Umm, if it's the panel with Sebastian's freaky boot and him saying that Ciel's such a small master - that's from a flashback when Ciel remembers what happened to him as a kid, and how the people kidnapping him had tried to summon a demon. If it's the shot of all the dead people immediately after that, it's either from that flashback chapter, or from the chapter where Ciel discovers Baron Kelvin's madness (and obsession with Ciel) and kills him.

@khyaoigirl396 If you mean the panel where Sebastian's running fingers through his hair, it's in the chapter where LIzzie and Ciel's aunt show up to celebrate Ciel's birthday (chapter 14, p 41).

Freaking beautiful description. Thats what i've always thought of their relationship in cannon. I leave the yaoi to my fantasies :3

@khyaoigirl396 Agreed! I've always thought that their relationship would always be more interesting/complex if you leave out the yaoi (although that can be made interesting and complex too, if written well; and I've seen examples)
