SEE ALL NOTES: JR Ewing, silent aggressor/manipulator- temporarily out of Ewing Oil after being famously shot. Jock Ewing conducted business without any hesitation or consultation. Bobby attempted to establish his business know how, in JR's shadow.
Ewing funds were used without discussion. The result........... conflict about money and power.

  • I love that quote "Real Power Is Something You Take"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jock was a good balance between JR's ruthless nature and Bobby's honorableness, when the actor died suddenly I believe the series lost something it never regained. It eventually became too reliant on the JR character ; every other character became one dimensional in comparison. They should never have brought Clayton in he was so wet in comparison to Jock and it was patronizing and lazy to believe that Ellie could not have had fulfilling or interesting stories without having another husband

  • ' let me tell you somethin boy"

  • @jasonfury1

Absolutely spot on. I watched the series as a boy with my mum and I thought, watching them again, they wouldn't be as good. But the eraly episodes are great. Jock really kept JR in check it certainly lacked something when he passed away.

  • Is it just me or does Bobby REALLY look like a young version of Jock? I wonder if they cast them on purpose?

  • @jasonfury1 i agree, but Clayton's character was originally intended to appear in only a few episodes at first, but audience response to his character was so strong that he was written into the show as a regular character. That's probably why his character and Ms.Ellie married.

  • @jasonfury1 I agree. I have always thought that Ellie should have been like Victoria Barkley and not remarried. As for the rest of the characters, at times I rooted for JR with the rest of them being self rightious hypocrites.

I did not care for Clayton either. I understood JR's feelings toward him. He was right when he referred to Clayton as an outsider who did not belong.

  • @kclark1169 If JR was secretive who did he learn that from?

  • why is Major Nelson sittin at the table?
