If someone tries telling you that Canada doesn't have any great theatre, then you can respond to them in three words -- Shaw Festival Theatre! One of the greatest theatrical experiences in Canada and one of the most renowned theatres in the world, the Shaw Festival Theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake is a not-to-be-missed theatre for both theatre buffs and casual theatre-goers alike. The Shaw Theatre is an engaging night out that you are sure to love.

The Shaw Festival is an annual eight-month celebration of plays by Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries - from Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward to Chekhov, Isben and Brecht. The company now works in four theatres:

First: The largest is the Festival Theatre, which at 869 seats is still intimate by most standards. Here is where our grand season opening takes place each May.

Second: The Court House Theatre, located where the Shaw Festival began in 1962.

Third: The Royal George Theatre, which was built in 1915 as an intimate vaudeville house and the Studio Theatre, which was donated by philanthropist Walter Carsen.

Fourth: The Studio Theatre is a beautiful little 200-seat theatre located in the Shaw Festival's Production Centre (same location as the Festival Theatre) and has gorgeous outdoor patio overlooking beautiful gardens and grounds which are ideal for a stroll.

All theatres are within walking distance of each other and each has its own charm. The Shaw Festival produces 10 to 12 plays each season, with approximately 800 performances in our four theatres, to audiences totaling about 300,000 people.

It's a fabulous experience whether you're a theatre buff or not. See you at the theatre!
