@sarmenhb : if you would be actually selling a product on your site or offer any services you should care more about supporting ie 6. My analytics reports show that 20% of the IE users run IE 6 in Europe. That's quite a lot.
If you just put a javascript error message, there is a high risk of losing some of your clients.
IE6 will eventually go away. But, imho the best way to go is to support it until it is forever gone (hopefully).

seriously whoever is supporting ie6 is wasting their time. just put something on your site that detects if ie6 is used and alert the user that they need to change their browser in order to browse your site. your not really gonna get money from a person using an outdated browser. people who have money to spend are usually with an up to date version of somewhere around ie7. no matter how much they lack computer usage.

Man. I don't even support IE7 anymore, because it doesn't support DATA URIs. Even older systems running win9x still got a better alternative, called opera. So i wouldn't worry about it.
