@ShippudenFan09 Squall was always a more experienced combatant. He joined Balamb at the age of 6/7 and became the leader of SeeD just in the second disc of the game, whereas Cloud tried to join SOLDIER at the age of 13, became an ordinary ShinRa grunt and was experimented in a laboratory for 4 years.

Sephiroth got killed because he's arrogant. He wanted him to suffer. He didn't used a fraction of his abilities to combat Cloud. He was dominated just by basic swordsmanship. It's stated, sorry.

Well, I disagree with that term. But hey, I have to agree that the Junction System was kind of annoying, yes. But what makes you think the story is overrated? How can you say Final Fantasy VIII's story is overrated when Final Fantasy VII has like tons of spin-offs, sequels, movies, prequels, etc.? Think about it, please. And Squall is 17 years old, actually.

cloud pawned squall easily, the facts:

- squall so scared to get hurt, so he's acting cool by avoiding love..(pussy reason)

- if squall is that good how come he get caught by edea? oh n stealing magic from enemies? cmon, u rnt that desperated r u?

- in solo battle when they took 9999 damage !!! quickly cloud cast final attack+phoenix TARA back to life with full hp ready to rumble!! so how squall?..........GAME OVER (game over when playing ff series ? )

LOL stop the fan boying guys,they're both awesome in my opinion.They both developed so much in FF7 and FF8 and its hard to tell who would win in a fight.I kinda like Squall better though,because he overcomes he emo-ness throughout the game and learns to care for his comrades and for the world.Cloud kinda stays emo till after Advent children lol

The only reason VII is popular is the hype and the fact that it gets straight to the point relatively early. VIII is the most technically advanced PS Final Fantasy, yet needs time to really get into. Squall is the better protagonist, swordsman, and leader. Cloud has a big sword and gravity-defying hair, which my close-to-1-year-old cousin already has (hair, not sword).

VII's story is the most overrated of any of the Final Fantasies. It's not a bad story by any means, but it's nothing special. Everything that happened it it had happened in an earlier Final Fantasy and in many ways it was done better in those games. Sephiroth LOOKED cool, but there was nothing groundbreaking about the was he did things. I mean, he basically just did the same things that minor villains had done in the earlier games, so I don't understand why he's considered to be a good villain.
