My wife Sharon taught the Koi to eat 'fish cookies' from her hand in our backyard pond.

  • wats a fish cookie?

  • I don't know what they are made of, but we buy them at the pond store. They look like a single sugar cookie wafer.

  • You need to be very patient at first. Do not move quickly or cause vibrations. "Fish Cookies" help too - they are special treats the Koi really like to eat.

Usually, there is one Koi that is a leader. If that Koi is shy, the rest will follow. You may need to add a friendly Koi to break the cycle. Sometimes, even a friendly goldfish in the pond gets things started.
