Amie is the Lead Designer at Ponderwell, an Asheville-based software and web development company. Her passion for community journalism began five years ago with writing news analysis for Newsvine.com, an early collaborative journalism website. Over the years she has written hundreds of articles on topics ranging from politics to the dynamics of online communities. In 2008 she met Martin Haywood (a computer programmer and fellow community journalism enthusiast from Australia), and together with her husband Michael Tracey (programmer and founder of the collaborative community photojournalism site ImageAsheville.com) they founded Ponderwell around the concept that their technology skills and experience could one day solve many of the issues plaguing community journalism. Recently, their ideas were the most highly rated proposal for the Community Media Development Initiative for the Asheville area, and they continue to pursue their dream at http://ponderwell.com/.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  • Very well done! I'm sure she was referring to flattr when talking about a way of reciprocating with monetary support instead of just "liking" content. This is the only way we can ween ourselves away from the abuses of copyright law that would hinder our freedom of speech.

  • Well said. Been a while, we really should catch up at some point! :D

  • so the internet has a GOD like power. okay i got it.

so do you think no one is interesting in controlling it ?

just stop dreaming for a sec. the internet it self may not be as we know it in the future.

just like the newspaper the internet will be censorship, controlled and a tool to spread propaganda. history is the best teacher.

the tool that has been created to spread new's and help ppl will be used against them.

    just wait and see.

NOTE for the smart ass's (English is not my language) .
