Here's 2 commonly used commercial record players in operation playing some classic Motown hits. Both of these machines have solid state amplifiers, but the earlier versions look basically the same with tube amplifiers. Newcomb was the most common in schools and churchs from the 1960s on. Other's in use back then were made by Audiotronics, Califone, and Hamilton.

@AMD1 well about 4 years ago I remember borrowing a Newcomb from my grandmas school (she was a teacher at lewis vincent elementary, sadly she passed away and her school wanted the Newcomb back) so i know they still use them.

@MegaEvilBrain yes a bit of history from my school days! the Newcomb has very nice warm rich sound. they were the best of all the commercial record players.

I remember in 1966 in the fourth grade listening to "learn our vowels" or some such thing...and on this very kind of record player.

@EstateManor yes, I also have memories of the teachers playing educational records on Newcomb record players. once in a while they would bring in a reel to reel tape recorder.

@MJAngelLove funny how these things bring back school memories for so many people. I should have played a school learning record rather than dopey old music. thanks for watching! - Katt
