I didn't really get what they ment to say by this video...And, funny as it may seem, we read more than 8 books in a year. Reading 8 books in a year is required in my country of fifth graders or below, not college students. We read more than 20 books for one exam only, let alone a year. Not to mention all the books we read for fun aside those compulsory. And I made it through college fine without a laptop and stuff. What's the morale here? That college sucks? Then don't go! I really don't get it.
im in 9th grade in a digital immersion program which allows us to use laptops fro our classes there are the ones who go in facebook and take the technology for granted, but there are people who actually use there laptops for something useful and its true what they say that these classes aren't relevant to our life because they aren't. we waste our time on things we will never do or use.
Amazing how people will bury such a success story. I wonder what the reasons are? Are you angry that you're 60K in debt and are not even in the field your degree is related to by any chance? Jealousy? Very strange. American is full of people that skipped university and made it bog. Bill Gates. Steve Jobs. Warren Buffet left after 2 years claiming he knew more than his professors. The list goes on. It's not hard. Just get a job, and study hard at home. Use the library. Information IS free.
all is good, but one thing: one of the student's papers mentions how a lot of the work the students do has no real-world application, but imagine what would be if all we learned was only what we needed. we'd all be illiterate, because being educated means knowing more than you actually apply. how is knowing Lenin's death day helpful in your everyday life?
there are other ways to fight the system; not everybody capable of self-educating; for many, university is a great opportunity that leads to many more. my point is, just because said story happened to you does not make it a good example for everyone. in fact, it's a bad example. if you spend 30 months educating yourself, especially today, you won't automatically be given the chance to open a successful business. am i right?
no. many are not. university requires study habits. university also teaches you study habits. if everyone is capable in America, why is this country so illiterate? if they're so smart they don't even need university, why do many even fail to graduate? and about knowledge from education in contrast to knowledge required -- if all you know is only what you need, you're a pretty boring person. as far as i'm concerned, being educated involves more than just knowledge from your one sphere of work.
israelandersonvideo - busyak's main point is that a university education is about more than starting your own business or earning money.
I have worked in higher education for over 15 years. Many adult students I have worked with have been or still are very successful business owners or vice presidents in corporations. I respect their accomplishments. They do not need a degree from a financial standpoint, but they return to college for personal fulfillment. I have even more respect for that.

If I did, anyone can do it.
And I should have added to my initial comment that I am an orphan to boot. Trust me, everyone can do do it. EVERYONE!
