@Scoob505 Yeah, I really don't think being from a place qualifies you to tell me, necessarily, what things where like in the 1920's there. But whatever, I was just assuming because of how long family rivalries have extended in other countries - so I *was* talking out of my ass.

@futurestoryteller No they weren't, I know because I am from the fucking place. I have living relatives who were around during the war, even were involved in it. there were no " tribal " grievances. During the Civil War, families turned on each other, you see the beginnings of the Civil War in this Season of Boardwalk Empire. Brothers turned on brothers.

i'm assuming that he was once involved with the ira but abandoned the cause to go to america. you see owen quizzing him in the scene before this one. there may be some deeper motive revealed in season 3 that also relates to why owen left ireland.

I didn't get this scene at all (partly because I couldn't understand the Irish dialect).. could someone please explain to me what the quarrel was all about?
