Auditioning for camera tips. Good luck!

Do you want to see a video of me auditioning?

A Real Audition:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTwVX2joKds&feature=channel_video_title

Slate/Ident - Name and agent down the camera lens sometimes including profiles, full length shot and hands. Slate is when you do it with your name on paper.

Cold (or blind) Read - reading from a script with little preparation.

Sides - sections of the script/blurb of scene that you use in your audition.

Off Book - learn your lines!

  • I really love your videos, they have really inspired me, I hope you read this and reply back, if you dont its fine, but I would love to know how you started off, could you maybe give me some tips from websites or something, because I literally have no idea where to go to get an audition for something. I have tried websites, but most of them you have to pay for, and I really dont want to do that:/ If you reply bakc, i'd really appreatiate it! Thanks!:)

  • @BlacckCuts Hi! I know this sounds like spam but honestly everything is on my website - about casting websites, what to pay for, what not to etc so please do take a look. :) its straightfromschool . org

  • Should you be offbook even if you got the script 10 minutes ago?

  • @AlexandriaLouise94 Well obviously no casting director will expect you to have learnt it in a short time frame. If you got the script the night before however, it's best you learn as much as you can. Though I did meet an actor who learned a 500 word monologue in the 10 minutes we gave him. Never seen that before, and it was impressive!

  • im in high school, a junior, and i wanted to ask if i should start acting now or wait to study it in college and actually have a chance a being what i want to be

  • @bigbang203 Start acting now. If you want to be professional getting credits as soon as possible will help you. When I say start acting now I mean at least in an amateur sense (school plays, drama clubs, acting classes) because it is hard to get actual acting jobs when you're balancing school. That said, it is possible to do both!

  • do you have an websites for agents?

  • i wanna be an actrees and someday i know i will... i just can't wait to finish high school and start working and studying what i really want (dramatic arts) i know i have the talent and i know that i'll never give up until i get it! the only thing i'm worried about is that i'm a little bit nervous.

  • @DramaGirI Hello! I would be surprised if an actor is ever asked to do a monologue for a camera audition. You will never be asked to do a monologue (from a play, never a movie) for an audition unless it's for a theatre production or drama course! Acting for camera is about 're-acting', so you will normally be asked to read a scene with someone else. :)

  • Hi thank you SO MUCH for this info its soooo helpful..... but what type of monologue should one do? Should they do a monologue from a play, or from a movie, or one just written by an author? Or whatt??
