Not always true - that is, the part about talking to the dog. It depends on the dog, how it is trained and the type of communication used between the dog and handler. The legendary Bloodhound handler Bill Tolhurst also disagreed with the "shut up" line of thinking. He used verbal communication with his dogs almost constantly. He talked to his dogs a lot. Read page 45 in the Police Textbook for Dog Handlers. But then, what does Bill Tolhurst know???
