Over a thousand workers, union members, and activists raised their voices to say "RESPECT WORKERS' RIGHTS" at a protest at a fundraiser today for Wisconsin Republicans. These same Republicans recently passed legislation disrespecting collective bargaining rights and freedom of association for workers, and reversed decades of progress for the working class. Attendees at the event heard from Wisconsin natives recently returned from massive demonstrations in Madison, Wisconsin, from Jos Williams, head of the DC metro area AFL-CIO, and from many others who oppose Walker's extreme agenda.

This video was taken after we had occupied the atrium of the building in which the Wisconsin GOP fundraiser was being held, and we had flooded out onto the street. This was followed by a spontaneous march to the White House, over to the Chamber of Commerce (corporate lobbyists), and then back to the Wisconsin GOP fundraiser.

The fundraiser was hosted by the lobbying firm called BGR Group. They asked $1,000 to get in the door, but "sponsors" are asked to contribute $2,500 and "hosts" are asked to pay $5,000.

The lavish event benefitted the following conservatives:

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau;
Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald of Horicon;
Rep. Scott Suder of Abbotsford;
Sen. Glenn Grothman of West Bend;
Joint Finance Committee co-chairmen, Sen. Alberta Darling of River Hills
Rep. Robin Vos of Burlington

  • @Hoosierhorsesense Subverting democracy looks like a Republican legislature ramming through legislation that 78% of their state disagrees with, using fuzzy-logic legal loopholes.

    @stewman65 This event was held from 5 PM to 7 PM, and most participants joined in after a full workday, myself included.

    @higuma75 "Mob rule" is a term invented by those intent on disempowering people from rising up. The American Revolution would likely be "mob rule" by your definition.

  • how about the fucking socialists at the heads of your beloved unions, they do not care about you, only their own political and monetary gain.

  • Long live the fighters.

  • If these were workers, wouldn't they be working instead of protesting.. I'm guessing they are professional protesters.. Some people will protest anything, they just love the act of rebellion and anarchy, irregardless of the issue at hand..

  • socialist idiots

  • socialist idiots

  • And by the way, the bill was not aimed at workers in Wisconsin. It was aimed at PUBLIC EMPLOYEES. Jobs that produce nothing and only cost money.

  • This isn't about workers' rights. This is about power. It's like Germany in the years between the wars.

    This is what democracy looks like? No, this is what mob rule looks like. And how dare the local governments trying to save money. Where do you stupid commies think the money comes from? The printing machine? Oh I know "tax the rich!" That's been done in the EU and it's NOT working, you red jackasses.

  • This is what subverting democracy looks like!

    Don't any of these "workers" have jobs?

    I see where Code Pink and the Socialist Worker's Party are involved.

    Parasites.
