What do I know? Hmm my family are from Kiev. Grandfather born when Kiev was in the RUSSIAN Empire. The same one that came from Kiev duhhh!

@joninwestcountry Rus' and "russia" are not the words of the same root. Ukraine had been under russian power for centuries. But Ukrainian is not a dialect of any laguage but its own. Russia brought slavery, henocide and eventually bolshevicks to Ukraine. The relationship between the two resemble relationship between England and Ireland. It is quite upsetting and descriminating to hear that Ukraine is Russia. Where do you think we came from? Fell of the ski?

@joninwestcountry Dude no offense but Kyiv is a Ukrainian city, just like Ukraine is a country. You might say Ukrainians now a days are in fact by blood Russian, but not the Russian your thinking about. The country, Russia, isn't what it seems. There were two kingdoms in ancient Europe, Kievan Rus and the Muscovite Dynasty. The modern day Russia and Russian people are in fact not Russians but Muscovites. So if you state Ukrainians as Russians then Russia came from the modern day Ukraine. No Hate

Kiev is a beautiful RUSSIAN city. Its a shame the nonsense of an "independent Ukraine" is perpetuated. Ukrainian is simply a dialect of Russian interspersed with Polish and other words.
