How to make a walking / jumping game with Flash CS4 (Part 3/3 - Scrolling Virtual Camera)

This three part series will explain how you can create your own Flash Game with CS4, where in which a character will be controlled by the arrow keys, and jump with the space key. It will give you an insight into the basics of a more complicated game (Such as a platformer).

The first part deals with the character design + animation, and background design. The second will include all the script. The third will show you how to make a Virtual Camera to follow / scroll with the player as he walks.

This will work with CS5, CS4, CS3, Flash 8, MX 2004. Note that you need to use ActionScript 2.0.

hey guys, i figured it out. its not following your guy because the script is mistyped, onClipEvent (enterframe) ( _y += (_root.Char._y-_y); _x += (_root.Char._x-_x); ) replace the starting and ending ( ) with { } and it should fix the problem. it did for me onClipEvent (enterframe) { _y += (_root.Char._y-_y); _x += (_root.Char._x-_x); } like this ^^^

@FireFriends2011 - It isn't actually mistyped, the brackets both in the video and in the annotation are '}' ones, not ')' ones. Watching in higher quality makes this easier to see. But you're correct in that regular ')' brackets won't work.
