Mariano Chicho Frumboli y Eugenia Parrilla dance to Poema.

This video is from CITA 2005 openning night, and when everyone were expecting an electronic/nuevo tango song, chicho (as arce/montes on that night) danced to a classic tango. And Chicho did it great on his style to one of the most popular tango songs.

my notes:

1) I dont remember any couple dancing to that alternative beat to poema before this (if you have a video, post it please). But after this... probably every single professional couple used it.
2) The floor were very very slipery that night.
3) I miss Chicho-Parrilla SOOOO much...

Hmmm...

I like this poema more, cause this one is more musical and has a more "comic" theme. You can hear the crowd asking for it...

In Ljubljana i feel a more romantic air.

Also this one is older and many things are new to that time. Also its historic cause it breaked expectations and silenced some critics. On that time 'tango nuevo' was being called a gymnastic dance, and on that night chicho/arce used simplistic steps and ending positions but kept using nuevo musicality/possibilities.

Chicho es siempre una grata sorpresa, lastima que la compañera se vaya de estilo revolenado las piernas de esa manera. Asi se arriezga el eje del hombre y se lo fuerza a hacer cosas que terminan comprometiendo la elegancia. Grande Chicho!!!, grande en serio, incluso en zapatillas (si los comedidos supieran que el tango se empezo a bailar en alpargatas...)

I have to agree with Henry, I like this one better. But then it is art and it depends on the observer. It is amazing how he dances so differently in the two videos, picking up the background tango beat in this video and ignoring it to provide a beautiful romantic(more conventional) interpretation of poema in zmalosej's video.

ahh... well. I can't say I'm impressed. Don't get me wrong, they both are lovely together, however, I think that the spirit of the piece got lost somewhere between proving a point and his "noisy" follower. There just comes a time when you have to realize that sometimes less is more. Here she totally missed the mark quite tragically. I got lost in all of her odd embellishments, and the over-complication of a rather beautiful and well known piece. Its sad. :(
