ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero calls for an investigation of Bush, Cheney, Rice and numerous federal judges concerning the Bush administration's secret legal memos on torture.

-----

Although the first few months of Obama's presidency have brought considerable change, there is still much work to be done in the area of civil liberties.

Anthony Romero, a pioneer figure in ACLU's history, believes that the economic crisis and international pressure will force Obama to put potentially divisive issues on the back burner, such as gay rights, the future of Guantanamo, and the war on terror. In this talk, Romero discusses how we must still work to promote activism in the Obama era. - Commonwealth Club of California

Anthony D. Romero is the Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union, the nation's premier defender of liberty and individual freedom. He took the helm of the 87-year-old organization just four days before the September 11, 2001 attacks. Shortly afterward, the ACLU launched its national Safe and Free campaign to protect basic freedoms during a time of crisis. Under Romero's leadership, the ACLU gained court victories on the Patriot Act filed landmark litigation on the torture and abuse of detainees in U.S. custody, and filed the first successful legal challenge to the Bush administration's illegal NSA spying program. Romero, an attorney with a history of public-interest activism, has presided over the most successful membership growth in the ACLU's history and more than doubled national staff and tripled the budget of the organization since he began his tenure. This unprecedented growth has allowed the ACLU to expand its nationwide litigation, lobbying and public education efforts, including new initiatives focused on racial justice, religious freedom, privacy, reproductive freedom and lesbian and gay rights.

  • It would certainly leave a firm legacy for Democrats to ensure that no one, including George W. Bush, will never again think they are above the law.

    .

  • It seems that only the U.s. and isreal Governmental powers can absolve itself of in-humane atrocities committed through out the world by simply issuing a statement of " we regret the circumstances and lost of lives BLAH BLAH BLAH" clique. Oh,What can we do? "You can create bait to draw the dragons out of their cave Legally" Julian Assange.

PLS GO TO GOPUSA.COM TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ACLU.......THEY ACT LIKE THEY ARE YOUR FRIENDS

  • Most Americans are not even aware of the ACLU's radical left birth and its dedication to following a communist-socialist agenda for the past 85 years. The ACLU was created at a unique gathering held in 1919 by an activist socialist named Roger Baldwin.

  • From the beginning, Roger Baldwin instructed those involved in the ACLU movement to make sure it always looked like a very patriotic organization. He instructed them to..."steer away from making it look like a socialist enterprise. We want to look like patriots in every thing we do. We want to get a lot of flags, talk a good deal about the Constitution and what our forefathers wanted to make the country and show that we are really folks that stand by the spirit of our institutions."
