I live in Norway, and sure, those trees does loose their nedles! My grandmother's kitten (poor thing..) ran into a two week old tree once. Unill then, they had only counted about 20 nedles on the floor, but afterwards, they counted about 20 on the tree... =P
That's why most of us use that first tree specie now...

I'd rather have a potted tree than a cut one. You could change the decorations with the seasons and when it gets too big for the house, just plant it in the backyard (or give it to someone else to put in their yard.)

I was always under the impression that the Christmas Tree was actually a holdover from Pagan times. Ah, well, learn something new every day.
By the bye, I don't see your breath fogging up. Is it unseasonably warm in Nottingham in December this year?
